Happy Friday the 13th! Why not celebrate with some news about Peacock’s upcoming “Crystal Lake” prequel series? Back in March, Linda Cardellini (“Freaks & Geeks,” “Dead to Me“)was tapped to play Pamela Voorhees. Ms. Voorhees was famously the original killer in the first “Friday the 13th” film before being supplanted by her son for the following installments. But you can’t shake the original, which is why we were excited to hear about Cardellini’s casting for the upcoming project. Now we can happily report that the cast is expanding.

Devin Kessler (“Godfather of Harlem”), Cameron Scoggins (“Nashville,” “Shades of Blue“), and child actor Gwendolyn Sundstrom have joined the series. It’s a somewhat bold move going with a pack of lesser featured actors, but one that will hopefully highlight some burgeoning talent.

Kessler will play the role of Briana Brooks, Scoggins will play Dorf, and Sundstrom will be taking on the role of Grace. None of those are names of characters from the first “Friday the 13th” film, so do with that information as you will. We do know the series is being developed, written, and produced by Brad Kane, who will also be the showrunner. Kane has written for previous series including “Fringe” and “Black Sails.” Oh, and was also the singing voice for Aladdin. Which is one of those things you didn’t need to know but will be fun to tell your friends when you’re watching “Crystal Lake” together.
We’ll see what other developments happen on the way to everyone’s favorite blood-soaked summer camp as the series continues to push forward.
